HMRC have made an announcement regarding their register of firms

Until now the Supervised Businesses Register on GOV.UK has only contained details of Money Service Businesses and Estate Agency Businesses.  In response to requests to check whether businesses in other sectors are registered with HM Revenue and Customs, they have now extended the register to include all businesses registered with HMRC. The register is available via a search function using business names and postcodes. Further updates will be made as soon as possible to improve the search functions.

This service also replaces paper registration certificates which are no longer being issued to new or renewing businesses, when registering using the new online system.  We have contacted UK financial institutions to make them aware of this.

If you think a business is trading without being registered when it should be, you can let them know by completing a Hotline report form.
